This has been a tough year for most people; however, it is almost over now and 2021 is on the horizon! Although a lot of things changed in 2020, we now have a new perspective on the online marketing world. Investing time into your mobile site is very important moving forward; you want your mobile site to look just as good as it does on desktop. This means making sure it’s very easy to use, has rapid loading times, and users can easily find the information they came for.
In 2020, Google started using mobile-first indexing. This means that it judges your site based on how it works on mobile, so, instead of using desktop indexing on mobile, it now has its own indexing. This isn’t a huge deal; it probably doesn’t change much for most people. However, this means that It is even more important to get your site mobile ready!

- LCP: Largest Contentful Paint
- You want this to take place within 2.5 seconds of when the first page begins loading
- FID: First Input Delay
- You want your pages to have a FID of less than 100 milliseconds
- CLS: Cumulative Layout Shift
- You want your pages to keep up a CLS of less than 0.1

User experience goes beyond how easy your website is to use. Don’t get me wrong, that is very important; however, you also want users to enjoy coming to your website. When Google crawls your pages, it follows links to determine the relationship between pages. This is especially important in blog articles; linking to another relevant article can make finding specific topics very convenient.
2. Examine your categories
You don’t want to write all of your articles on the same topic; you want to have a variety to meet users’ needs. With that being said, if you have some categories that are twice the size of other categories, you need to start writing content about other topics to balance it back out. Another option is to split one big category into two or even three categories to make sure you have close to equal amounts of content for each topic.
3. Remove old content
Out with the old and in with the new. This one is pretty self-explanatory; you have to get rid of content that is no longer relevant or that you have rewrote. This may seem like a common task, but a lot of old content just gets lost on a website. Whether its old blog articles that were rewritten or a product you no longer sell, they need to be removed. However, if the content you’re getting rid of has links to your page, you obviously don’t want to lose that. You can redirect the URL so it will still help you with your SEO!

Another thing to do, is to rewrite old content that may not be as good as your newer content. Improving what you have is always a great idea! If you really just think there’s no need for some of your older or duplicate content, you can get rid of it. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to remove some of your articles that are not relevant anymore.
