In this blog, we will go through a quick guide on how to purchase your very own web domain. Before we begin, let’s talk about what a domain name entails.

Why You Need a Domain Name

A domain name is the address of your website that is typed into the URL bar. Every website has to have one to even be reachable. Having one that is unique and relevant to your website will help assure your customers that they are in the right place, as well as let people know what your site is about from a glance. There are a few other reasons for registering a web domain: to protect your copyrights and trademarks, increase brand awareness, and SEO.

Choosing a Registrar

Registrars are the companies that you buy your web domain name from. You may have heard of some popular ones before, such as GoDaddy or Network Solutions. At Eldie Web Design and Marketing, we suggest using NameCheap.com for your domain name. That is who we will be using today to show you how to purchase a web domain.

Step 1: Go to NameCheap.com

Namecheap.com

Step 2: Type in the Domain You Want

In the center of the page, you’ll see the search box. Type the domain name that you want in the box to see if it is available for purchase. If it’s available, add it to your cart! If it’s not, get creative with it! ChiropraticCare.com may not be available, but that doesn’t mean MyChiropracticCare.com or BestChiropracticCare.com isn’t. Take some time and make a good choice since this will be the web domain that you will be building an SEO score on.

Side Note: Don’t buy a TLD (Top Level Domain) that isn’t a .com for your main domain. For example, we own EldieDesign.com and Eldie.design, but we don’t host our website on Eldie.design because .com is more professional.

Step 3: Move on to Check Out

Now that you have the web domain(s) in your cart, it’s time to create an account and check out. Below, I’ll break down all the options you have at checkout:

Domain Registration:Choose for how many years you want to secure the domain name
ICANN fee:Check out this link for all the info: ICANN Fee Breakdown
Who Is GuardAlways get this! This protects your info on the public records.
 – PRO TIP: Be sure to turn on the Auto-Renew for both the domain and the Who Is Guard
Premium DNSYou won’t need this.
Improve Your SiteDon’t worry about anything in this section either. Just upsell whatnots.

That’s it!
